Workshops General Creating own Panorama for AFPD

Creating own Panorama for AFPD

E-mail Print PDF

Create your own PANORAMA Scenery for AFPD (without crash-objects)

(This workshop is assembled out of many reports from Gebhard Mussnig in the RC-Sim Forum)

On your flying field:

Make about 20-30 photos using a tripod and panorama head.
The panorama head must be in horizontal position, the camera in upright format.
Tripod height in eye level (160-170cm)
Horizon in lower third of the picture (it is better to have more sky)
1. Photo: 90 degrees right to pilot position.

Create Panorama Photo on your PC:

Create a Panorama Photo using a 360 degree program (jpeg format)
(e.g. Irfan View, Ulead360 ….)

Bring the Panorama to a size of 8192 x 4096 pixels using a graphics program (Photoshop …)
Fill the upper part with sky
Fill the lower part with ground
Save as .jpeg

Create folder for Aerofly:

Create folder
Copy these files into the folder:
afpdjtof.exe
ground.obj
My Pano.geo (renamed)
My Pano.jpg (My Panoramafoto 8192x4096)

The first three files I have downloaded from Rodeo’s Homepage (Thanks)

Open the .obj and .geo files and delete all data inside.
Enter the following:
//afpdjtof automatic
Afpdjtof.exe My Pano.jpg

Save the file as AFPDJTOFself.bat
(A new file AFPDJTOFself.bat has been created in the folder automatically)

Start AFPDJTOFself.bat
(The new file photo_44 My Pano.cpg will be created automatically)

Now start afpdjtof.exe
(The 32 scenery files will be created. This might take a while)

At last copy the two pre-view pictures My Pano.bmp (64x64px) and My Panolg.bmp (256x256px) in this folder.

Now you must have the following files in the “My Pano” folder:
My Pano.jpg            (Panoramaphoto 8192x4096)
My Pano.bmp          (Preview picture 64x64 Pixel)
My Panolg.bmp       (Preview picture 256x256 Pixel)
afpdjof.exe
ground.obj
My Pano.geo
AFPDJTOFself.bat
photo_44My Pano.cpg
32 .tmt Files

All files with “My Pano” have been renamed by me.

In the folder My Pano.geo the following lines must be modified:

PHOTOTEXTURES   4   4   Auen1/Example

OBJECT            Auen1/ground.obj GROUND
//OBJECT          Auen1/collision.obj

change to:

PHOTOTEXTURES   4   4   My Pano/My Pano

OBJECT            My Pano/ground.obj  GROUND
//OBJECT          My Pano/collision.obj

Do all this in the folder “My Pano”

Copy the complete folder “My Pano” into the scenery folder of AFPD

The “My Pano.geo” and the two preview pictures must be moved to the scenery folder of AFPD.

That’s it.

In the scenery folder you should now have the following:

My Pano (Folder with all files)
My Pano.geo
My Pano.bmp (Preview 64x64)
My Panolg.bmp (Preview 256x256)

You can make changes in the .geo file to move the starting position etc.
This workshop does not contain crash-object, because up to now I don’t have gathered enough information from the many small tutorials in RC-Sim (e.g. Metasequoia).

With this guidance I have managed to build the small flying field for our juniors for the simulator.

I like to take the opportunity to thank all people who share their experience, tips, files, tools and models on RC-Sim and the Forum for free download.

If you find any faults in the manual, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Best regards
