Workshops General Adding Models to Reflex >5.04

Adding Models to Reflex >5.04

E-mail Print PDF

How to add models correctly in Reflex XTR (version 5.04 or higher):

Because many people have problems with this basically very simple topic, here some hints. For Reflex 5.05 it is even more important to place the models correctly, because the multiplayer mode does expect the models in the correct folder.

General:

- Otherwise ALL other participants can see your model only as a white structure (“dummy”)
- All participants must have the used models in the correct folder, respectively must use models that
all others do also have on their system. Otherwise a “dummy” will be displayed.
- An own arrangement of the folder with additional sub folders IS NOT ALLOWED.
- Type oriented sub folders must not be renamed.
- The given model name (.MOD file) must also not be renamed.

Note:

The above mentioned is also valid for Demo-files (all Reflex versions), otherwise Reflex will not find the models. It is the same for sceneries.

Where are the folders for “Aircraft” and “Helicopters” located?

According to the different operating systems the  paths are also different.

The search function does find the folders only if the folders are not “hided”.

Windows XP:

In Windows XP there are  2 places where the software is installed.
In the first part there is only the Sim itself and some other files (not important in this purpose).

The second part contains the folders for “Aircraft” and “Helicopters”

The standard installation folders are:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Reflex\Simulator\Aircraft
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Reflex\Simulator\Heli

It is logical that the model types are stored according to their allocation. Not “somehow” but like the builder has specified.
Just go to the folder of the model and read the “Readme” file.
Most of the times the developer has chosen a type oriented naming for his model folder.

Example:

\AEROart-Electric-Models\
\Daddy's Finest\

Or

\EXTRA_300S\
\Inferno_Pulso\
\Fiat_G-91\

These are „valid“ folders.

Not valid would be:

\rc-simDownloads\EXTRA_300S\
\Aerobatic\EXTRA_300S\
\My Favorite\EXTRA_300S\
\EXTRA_300S\EXTRA_300S\ .... (double !)

Therefore, no additional sub folders, no double entries. The Sim would NOT find the model and the other participants would only see a white “dummy”.

It is also wrong to place a model directly in the “Aircraft” folder:

\Aircraft\ EXTRA_300S.MOD

Exceptions are the models “Trainer” and “Dummy” (Reflex preset)

The models that are used by the participants and their “placement” can be found in the “participants list” of the flight meeting.

To take over complete folders from older Reflex version is no problem as long as the above mentioned conditions are kept.

If someone has to make changes because of a “wrong” allocation, this can be done during the online flight. The concerning model can not be used during this time (choose a different model before making changes). Make the changes and put in the new path via F5. Save, then select the changed model. That’s it.

If the above mentioned is taken into account, there will be less “white somethings” in future.

Happy Landings

Jürgen
